The Good Old Days were not too long ago. Just a few short years ago, there was a thrift store and a boutique in downtown Spencerport on the main street. What a treat it was to park your car and explore the village only to find a place to buy used clothes at a thrift store. How cool was it to go into a boutique that has new unique gifts for sale. With these places no longer on the main street and with all of the buildings in downtown occupied with businesses, there’s not many stores that are general for everyone to go into.
In the 1980’s in the village, there was a hardware store and a video store that brought in a lot of people, but if we were to have a new store like that now, there definitely needs to be space available. That’s why the new building that is being put up could be promising for Spencerport.
They plan on building a three story building with retail on the first floor and apartments on the second and third floor. It has been discouraging with the pace of the construction though. They started doing work on the corner in the Spring of 2021, but at this point, they are still only working on the basement. This summer, they only averaged two or three days a month working on the building. But we should still be hopeful that when it gets done, there will be space available on the first floor to have a business that will attract a lot of people to downtown.
